APG chickens have stopped laying, what are the options, what are some kids opinions, what is going on with them? Why did they stop laying? What can we do about this?
APG chickens have stopped laying there are a few options that we have, but some are fatal for them. The first option is keeping them at AP, some chickens take a break on laying during winter, so that might be possible for our chickens. The next option is we can relocate them to a chicken farm. That could traumatize them and they could possibly die, they probably would rather live than die. We as AP got these chickens for fun for the kids to enjoy having these amazing animals, it would be unfair to just leave them where they don’t belong. The last option and most horrible option is killing them and eating them. Most people think that ya chickens are practically born to be eaten, but AP did not get these chickens to eat we got them for basically pets. Who knows if they will even taste good. What if we kill them, then they don’t taste good that will be a waste. Teacher Seed has been taking votes of classes of all of these options, it all counts to the chickens lives but who knows maybe they are taking a break most chickens take breaks during winter because it is usually cold. Either way try to vote for keeping them.
The chickens could be at the age when they stop, but that's not likely, because it’s winter they stop because it’s cold and there egg production slows down. A way to get them back laying in the winter is keep them warmer. If it is winter that is stopping them from laying than they should start up around early February. The chickens need to be encouraged to lay again. It might not be the winter it might be stress, from all of the kids chasing them around.
We can't wait until around February to see if and only if they start laying again and if not what does the school do with the eggs? Do we really need the eggs or can we live without them. Some people have a connection to them.
